Content of Self-Directed Learning Curriculum

Within the course schedule at Linkou Kang Chiao International School, students can arrange self-directednon learning based on their personal talents, interests, skill development, or knowledge exploration. The purpose of "self-directed learning" is to provide flexible learning opportunities, allowing students to set their learning goals and plans, enhancing their proactive inquiry, adaptive exploration, character education, values development, and abilities related to extracurricular activities, showcasing students' soft skills such as planning and execution, teamwork, resilience, leadership, management. Ultimately, the goal is to sustain and deepen student learning proactivity, enabling them to embark on an in-depth learning exploration.

Implementation Methods and Guidelines

1.Me Time:

The ideal implementation of self-directed learning primarily occurs within the campus. It encompasses objectives related to intellectual enrichment (academic subjects, clubs, etc.), project-based learning, service learning, creative development, and more. Students can work in groups to complete a project or participate in online university-level courses. The outcomes of Me Time's self-directed learning are not graded, but they are closely tied to students' learning journey. The key point is for students to "self-learn" to accomplish their objectives, fostering positive proactivity and effectively managing their self-development. Students should conscientiously and proactively make use of the flexible time of "self-directed learning" to add value to their learning.

2.Self-Directed Learning Courses

The philosophy of self-directed learning courses is based on the principles of "initiative," "interaction," and "mutual benefit." It is an essential component of the Curriculum Guidelines of 12Year Basic Education. This approach represents a significant transformation within the new curriculum at the high school level. Students are required to complete a minimum of 18 self-directed learning courses within their three years of high school education. They have the flexibility to choose their learning topics, pace, and methods, to develop precise and feasible learning plans.

Objectives and Outcomes of Self-Directed Learning

The essence of self-directed learning lies in the "how to learn." Students are responsible for setting their own learning objectives, determining their learning methods, and utilizing resources to progressively execute their self-defined learning plans. During the execution of these plans, students cultivate abilities such as "identifying problems," "seeking resources," and "problem-solving."

While the success of self-directed learning is crucial, the primary focus remains on the process of "self-exploration." As long as students can clarify problems within the process or how to improve, openly address them, engage in reflect, they have undergone a complete self-directed learning experience.
