Independent Study Program
The Secondary School emphasizes project-based learning courses that align with students' abilities and guide them in using appropriate research methods, cultivating critical thinking, information synthesis, and problem-solving skills. Projects may be completed individually or in teams. English projects are guided by teachers with support tailored to students' language proficiency and culminate in presentations that enhance communication skills. Chinese projects often span a full academic year, progressing through problem identification, planning, inquiry, and presentation.Through this four-stage process, students are encouraged to take initiative in exploring topics of interest, integrate information from various sources, and develop innovative thinking, thereby strengthening their interdisciplinary research and learning abilities.
Self-directed Learning
Students can design their own self-directed learning projects—academic or personal—based on their interests, strengths, or inquiry goals. The Secondary School promotes the "One Student, One Talent" program, offering two periods per week and more than 120 elective courses annually. Starting with arts appreciation, the program includes wind instruments, string instruments, pop music, fine arts, dance, and traditional Chinese music. The program provides comprehensive support for developing both artistic passion and professional skills. Since its establishment in 2019, the Orchestra has continued to grow under the guidance of professional instructors from the TSO and NSO. Kang Chiao offers a wide range of athletic teams designed to support students' holistic development. In middle school, sports teams include badminton, basketball, swimming, and triathlon. Coaches emphasize encouragement over criticism and focus on recognizing each student's strengths. The KCISLK Scout Group consists of three branches: Scout Troop (G7–G8), Senior Scout Troop (G9–G12), and Rover Scout Crew. As an international school, Kang Chiao's program aligns with global scouting standards, Grade 9 is designated as the Senior Scout, which differs from domestic progression. Three Kingdoms-Themed Overnight Ｃamping

Integrating the history of the Three Kingdoms era with experiential learning, this two-day, one-night immersive program begins with thematic lectures and guides students into the dynamic setting of ancient military rivalries. Activities such as general competitions, cooking challenges, and academic battles immerse students in role-play and active learning. Through these engaging experiences, students enhance their teamwork, strategic thinking, communication, decision-making, and historical literacy—uncovering the depth and enjoyment of learning through actions.
International Education Trip

The Grade 9 international education trip takes place in Singapore, turning the city into a vibrant learning environment that blends academic inquiry with experiential fun. Beginning with a themed research project, students will learn inquiry methods before departure. During the trip, they observe and engage with different cultures, interact with local people, deepening their understanding and enriching their projects. The program incorporates small group structures, city exploration activities, and guided reflections to foster teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival

The curriculum includes swimming skills such as "long-distance swimming," "water self-rescue," and "open water swimming" to enhance students' water proficiency. The teaching of swmming class implements ability grouping and instructional differentiation. Through the 9th-grade activity and training of swimming across Sun Moon Lake, the curriculum sets learning milestones, emphasizing water safety, enhancing students' awareness of water hazards, and fostering their water self-rescue and lifesaving abilities. This not only showcases their learning achievements but also accumulates successful experiences for students.
Cycling around Taiwan

Each year, Grade 10 students participate in "Cycling Around Taiwan" as a milestone event marking their coming of age at 16. Guided by professional instructors, students undergo rigorous training and cycle around the island, developing physical endurance, goal setting, time management, and teamwork. The journey also includes thematic explorations of Taiwan's culture and natural landscapes, encouraging students to cherish and respect the land.
